Unable to enter safe mode W7 64 bit

W7 64bit Ultimate single OS

PC is working OK .. but been advised that I should apply changes as stated in MS Security Bulletin (undo an MS update change)

However I can't get it to enter safe mode .... I restart, pressing F8 .. I get ASUS prompt window asking me to choose boot disk .. I choose OS drive ... and then even though I am, pressing F8 it goes into normal start up.

Is there an alternative way ? ... recall of previous OS you could set next restart type ... i.e. tell it to start next time in safe mode before shut down.
