Printer Model: HP LaserJet M110w

Hello,
I'm ready to throw this printer out the window.
This is a wireless B/W LaserJet printer. I've connected to the IP address of the printer (192.158.0.163) which tells me that this wireless printer is connect to my router. In the Device Status, it says:

Status: Set up the printer now.
Refresh. Click this to refresh the device status.

Printer setup incomplete. Your HP+ printer must be set up using the HP Smart app. Visit 123.hp.com to download the app and complete the guided setup. Any pages you have printed were intended for setup and have been exhausted. If you completed setup, turn your printer off for at least a minute, then turn it back on. Wait a few minutes to let your printer status refresh and try to print again. Visit hp.com/plus-support for additional setup help.

So I've tried multiple times to use the HP Smart App to connect the printer. The result is exactly the same:
unable_to_register.jpg

I've tried finding solutions to that error code: 0W_4XX-OWSWS00001. All the technical support staff at HP say the same thing - restart the printer and try again. Maybe position the printer closer to your computer and router this time.

Is setting up wireless printing supposed to be this difficult? Is this really the status-quo? It seems that, after Windows 11, USB connection with your printer is too 2010 now.
Do you have to be a professional network administrator to get a document printed from a wireless printer now?

So if you think I'm a fool for buying HP, tell me. Experienced this yourself, tell me. Drop kick this printer in the recycling, tell me. Know a b/w laserjet printer that works on Windows 11 in 2023, tell me.

We have a HP printer, on win 11, it seems to work but it wasn't me who set it up.

Did they offer this?

Try these steps to re-install the printer driver -

1. In the search box, type and open "Uninstall a Program".
2. Look for HP Printer software.
3. Right-click to uninstall.
4. In the search box, type, and open “Devices and Printers”.
5. In the Devices and Printers, look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose “Delete” or “Remove Device”.
6. Open the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7. Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”).
8. Click on the "Drivers" tab.
9. Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click “Remove” at the bottom.
10. Select Ok.
11. Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows.
12. Close Devices and Printers Once the software and drivers are removed.
13. Restart the computer.
14. Download and install the software and drivers from here. or update drivers, here: HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads
15. Click on the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

Once again, I followed all those instructions and I get to this:

its possible you just butting heads with lvl 1 help desk who just repeat the basic scripts and don't look deeper into problem to find real answer. Alas, I don't know it either.

you might want to ask on here:
show them the steps you done and hope someone there has a better answer.

Question:

192.158.0.163

"158"? I would expect "168" - typo?

Make and model router? What is the router's IP address and subnet mask?

You should be able to find the IP address and subnet mask by running "ipconfig /all" (without quotes) via the Command Prompt on a working network computer.

If not sure about the "ipconfig /all rresults you can copy and paste the results herein without needing to retype everything.

Overall, try assigning the printer a static IP address matching the router's configuration settings.

Thank you. That is a typo. I've looked at my browser history and I have been typing 192.168.0.163 to access the printer admin panel. If I hadn't, I would not have been able to access it at all.

Good.

And that 192.168.0.163 IP address is a Static IP address reserved via the router for the print using the printer's MAC - correct?

If you run "arp -a" (without quotes) via the Command prompt is the printer listed? You should see both its' IP address and MAC (Physical address). The MAC should be listed on the printer and also within the printer's admin screens and menus.

Are you able to access the printer's admin pages and print out the printer's configuration report?

If so, do so. Check all of the configuration settings to ensure that each setting is as expected or required with respect to your network and printing environment.

My sense is that the problem is likely related to:

"Printer setup incomplete. Your HP+ printer must be set up using the HP Smart app. Visit 123.hp.com to download the app and complete the guided setup. Any pages you have printed were intended for setup and have been exhausted. If you completed setup, turn your printer off for at least a minute, then turn it back on. Not at all uncommon to have problems when manufacturers impose online configuration requirements and/or some app to do so.

You may be making changes but the HP Smart app may be undoing the changes.....

Be sure that you "Ok", "Save", or otherwise acknowledge the changes you make on the printer after completing the changes you make.

Well, there's been a development. The printer belongs to my father who lives an hour and a half away from me. He's spoke with HP technical support for two hours. Apparently, there are a number of orange clips inside the printer and drum that he had not removed which are described in the first-time startup guide. He's removed them now and the printer is printing everything in the queue (not just status reports that I managing to print). So we are both holding our breath and this technical support person will call again in two days.

I've just found this video clip that is far more enlightening than the other complete idiots whose videos I found first. Apparently, what I was trying to do in completing the setup of the printer is exactly what you should not do, because you are signing up for a deliberate scam by HP:
