I have XP Home Edition. Recently I was unable to print -
message said there were no printers installed. I tried to
add a printer and received the following
message: "Operation could not be completed". I attempted
to restart the spooler but that didn't seem to be
successful. I have also done a cleanup on my printer
drivers in case that was the problem. I have also looked
at similar posts and have tried the suggestions with no
luck. About the only recent changes to my system have
been Norton virus updates, windows updates and also
installed some digital camera software. Any other
suggestions on how to get spooler running so I can get my
printer added back in?

Work through Bruce Sanderson's instructions at
http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm

Pay particular attention to steps 14 through 16.

I have worked through those instructions using both the
regedit method and using cleanspl.exe and the problem
still seems to exist.

a) Run a System File Check... at the command prompt type:

sfc /scannow

b) Run a complete antivirus scan with updated signatures

c) Ensure your drives are free of spyware - www.lavasoftusa.com

d) If all else fails, try a Repair Installation

Thanks for the info. Not sure which item helped,
though. I did the system file check and also cleared up
some spyware. I was able to add my printer after that.
The problem now is that when I print - there is nothing
on the page when it comes out of the printer even though
it seems to be or sounds like it is printing. I may see
if updating the drivers will help that.

Don't forget to check the levels in the ink cartridges. If you left the
printer for a long time without being used, run a few cleaning and
maintenance cycles, the print head may be clogged.
