I intend to do 95% gaming on my new build. I'm aiming for 1440p 120hz with a good to great framerate. I play various types of games, like CSGO/APEX/PUNG and Total war, Civilization and other upcoming RTS.
My current build is;
Intel 4670k - I have gone back and fourth overclocking this since 2013.
Asus Maximus VI HERO
16GB DDR3 1866mhz Kingston Hyperfuryx
Gigabyte 1070 windforce x3
Various SSDs and Hard drives.
As you can see I keep my parts for a long, long time. My 4670k has treated me very well through the last almost decade. I'm just now noticing it struggling with a lot of games. It's time for me to go my separate ways to a new build which has proven difficult to pinpoint the best route to go with. I'm struggling with the AMD vs Intel a lot especially since the latest news of the 7 series not being a good price-performance ratio with the new AM5 mobos and ram. Which has led me back to my original idea of going with the AM4 or Raptor lake cpu.
Right now, my options would be 5800x, 5800x3d, 7600x or 12600k. I don't think I should wait for intel latest 1300 series I dont believe it will be good for pricing either. I just threw in the 7600x as an option if it truly is worth it. Really right now what is my current though process is grabbing a 5800x with an AM4 B550 or B660 motherboard, some good quality RAM and toss in my 1070 until I can get a cheap 3070 ti or 6800xt around Christmas. I'm wondering if that is the way to go.
My biggest ask is that what ever CPU I go with I want to last 5 years at least considering I got 9 years with my 4670k and only now I feel it struggling as I said.
Thanks
