Hi everyone, I am trying to build a gaming rig that is around 800 including OS, but am having trouble finding a spot to shave some dollars off of what I have. Price is going to be very important as I am off to college next year.
CPU: Intel i5 3470 $200
Mobo: Asrock z77 Extreme 4 $135
Video Card: Gigabyte 660 OC 2GB $204-$20 MIR=$184
RAM: G. Skills Ripjaw Series ddr 1600 2x4gb $63
PSU: Corsair HX650 $120-$10 MIR=$110
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus $30-$10 MIR=$20
HDD: WD Blue 7200rpm SATA 6.0/s $75
Case: Fractal design arc midi r2 $90
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit $100
Optical Drive: Asus Black SATA 24x DVD Burner $20
Other: Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Paste $8
Total=$1005
(All of these parts are from Newegg)
-Main uses: Gaming, Multimedia
-Games: BF3, Lol, HoN, SC2 (preferably 60fps or better on med to max graphics)
-Screen Resolution: 1680x1050
-Preferences: Nvidia+Intel
-Preferred Websites: None
-Location: Seattle, Washington
-SLI: Maybe, not likely
-Future Upgrades: SSD, OC capable CPU, SLI?, Blu ray
-Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor?: No
I am a first time builder so any advice helps along with help on lowering the price of this PC! I have no idea what I should change. I do not want to overclock my first build, but will try to overclock in the future. This will be my first gaming computer ever (typing from a half-decent Toshiba laptop). I have been a console gamer my whole life, but have always wanted to get into PC gaming because most of my friends are into LoL and HoN (which my laptop can't handle). I would really like to stay in touch through gaming. I have had a lot of fun learning about computers in the past couple months (especially through the community here on this website) and can't wait to start on this build!
Extra question: What is the best way to backup data, RAID or just an external hard drive?
