undervolt rx 480 8gb red devil

hi, i have set the voltage in wattman and managed to lower my gpu temps from 85c load to 68-73c load .. according to msi afterburner the wattage is now reaching a peak of 114w rather than 147w the clock speed is 1330mhz and memory speed 2000mhz . will it be safe to continue to run it as it is at 1012mv rather than the stock 1163mv? would there be any risk to me trying to take the voltage lower ?

I guess the real question is how does the 480 card play games since you lowered the core voltage of the Gpu ect in order to reduce the temperatures it was reaching.

If it has not crashed while playing a game or the system has frozen or suddenly exited out of a game you were playing and the performance of the card seems the same then I see nothing to worry about.

Adiec.

Not all graphics cards are the same, or the Gpu chips fitted to them, just like overclocking the card in Gpu speed and the memory speed also some cards do slightly better.

But it also works in reverse some cards you can get away with reducing the supplied core voltage to the gpu chip, while other Gpu chips may complain about a lack of voltage ect also crashing and...

i tried playing around with the fan settings to get lower temp but to get anything decent (mid 70c's) the fans sounded like a someone turned on 12 hoovers at once haha.. so lowered the voltage and then set the fan speeds to barely audible. i thought that because the gpu still runs at 1330mhz and 2000mhz as they do at stock. that i would get the same performance .. is that not true then ?

Nope, not necessarily. You can monitor the clocks under load to be sure that they're staying at maximum boost values and performance isn't being affected. In fact, in some cases it can improve performance, in cases where you were previously hitting a temp/power limit. Attempting to undervolt an RX 480 (and AMD cards in general) is a great idea.

No risk. You can undervolt until you start seeing artifacts/crashes, at which point increase the voltage back to the last stable voltage. I'm currently running my RX 480 at 1000 mV set in Wattman, 983 mV as measured by GPU-Z.

So if it seems stable, and provides you with cooler working temps leave it where it is if your happy with it Adiec I see no problem doing it.

ah ok :) thanks for that info.. i shall see how much lower it can go.. glad to know someone is running lower than i am currently and that i have a bit more room to play with .. fingers crossed!

i haven't experienced any crashing or freezes as of yet.. i have run a few benchmarks 3dmark unigine etc . first gpu i have bought since 7770 was released so not used to playing around with the settings in this way.. so thought it best to get other peoples opinions before pushing my luck 😛

Hello every one i want to ask that i've done some underclocking as i dont want high temps along with high fan noise, em not a ultra settings fan, i just want my games to run smoother in better settings, so i manged to get 40 FPS in pre-ultra settings in overwatch, these were my settings ( https://tinyurl.com/lug945q ) , didnt touched any thing in Wattman except Chill. i was getting 40 FPS with this at 64 C temp Max which em kinda Ok with. but i want to know are these settings OK? like i dont want to harm my Card as i want to use it for about 3 to 4 years are these settings good to go with or i can increase Frequency ? from 1900 to 2000 again ? didnt tried that but it was ok n stable in time SPY and fur mark.
