I just upgraded my machine from AMD to Intel Skylake. I am running a Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD5 (rev. 1.0), Intel 6700k, 32 GB DDR4 @ 2133 (only 16 usable due to Windows 7 Home Premium), and an EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SSC, all on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. When looking under device manager I see under other device "Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller". I have tried to get drivers through Windows which does not work. I did go to Gigabytes website and download what i thought I needed but nothing seems to help. When I click on "properties" it says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)." Everything else works fine, CPU, GPU, RAM, Blu-ray drive, Card reader, ect. I do not know what the unknown device is. Under hardware ID it says "PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15B6&SUBSYS_11112222&REV_00
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15B6&SUBSYS_11112222
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15B6&CC_0C0330
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15B6&CC_0C03" which I have tried to google and nothing comes up.

I have been attempting a new build on a Gigabyte Z170X-UD3 and have encountered this same problem, among numerous other issues. I realise that you must be getting tired of being the man of the moment, but after re-installing windows on several occasions to try and fix this, I wonder if you wouldn't mind sharing your miracle cure with me please.

I know my wife and kids would be very happy when this is all over 🙂

Thanks for the drivers!
During my many attempts to get w7 drivers to work (and with each time ending in a lock) I did do a BIOS update. I never retested the OEM drivers.
My Saturday employee got all drivers working with the OEM ASUS CD before I could tell him about the new drivers.
Of course no 3.1 function yet but I will try the drivers you supplied Monday.

I have emailed you the solution to what I have interpreted as being your email address from the above. If I get a rejection or you do not receive it I think all you need to do from this forum (on an iPad) is to first, make sure you are logged in to this website (I use Google+ to login) and then click on my username Snakes1000 in one of the posts which will take you to another page where you will have the option on the left hand side of the page to "send a private message". Once you have done that I will receive an email from this site telling me that your message is waiting to be opened. Put your full email address in that message and I will reply to it.

For some reason my iPad wasnt showing any of the left hand message options. That being said, I got your email and your solution worked perfectly!

Thanks again for your help. I cant believe how simple it ended up being once you pointed me in the right direction. Why cant Gigabyte make the solution this easy for W7

 
Hi,
i have the same issue, i downloaded the last drivers USB-utility from Gigabyte site but when it's installing, the screen freezed and even if i boot on 'Safe mode', the usb is dead and my keyboard doesn't respond at all and i have to reinstall again W7...it's a big problem...:/
Snake1000, may you send me the solution by mail ? impossible to send a MP in the dashboard (??).

Hi stealthviper. I tried to email you at that email address but got the following rejection. Can you check it is correctly typed in as I copied and pasted it exactly.

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

Technical details of permanent failure:

Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the server for the recipient domain hotmail.com by mx2.hotmail.com. [65.55.37.88].

The error that the other server returned was:
550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable
