I just upgraded my machine from AMD to Intel Skylake. I am running a Gigabyte GA-Z170X-UD5 (rev. 1.0), Intel 6700k, 32 GB DDR4 @ 2133 (only 16 usable due to Windows 7 Home Premium), and an EVGA GeForce GTX 970 SSC, all on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. When looking under device manager I see under other device "Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller". I have tried to get drivers through Windows which does not work. I did go to Gigabytes website and download what i thought I needed but nothing seems to help. When I click on "properties" it says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)." Everything else works fine, CPU, GPU, RAM, Blu-ray drive, Card reader, ect. I do not know what the unknown device is. Under hardware ID it says "PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15B6&SUBSYS_11112222&REV_00
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15B6&SUBSYS_11112222
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15B6&CC_0C0330
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_15B6&CC_0C03" which I have tried to google and nothing comes up.
Thanks for reading. If you have any solutions please post them.

And if they're not on the motherboard disk, or you lost it/don't have a reader, next stop is the manufacturer web site. Double check that you're downloading the right versions. You should be looking for chipset drivers, BTW.

NOTE: Windows WON'T know anything about drivers for Z170 chipsets. Not Win 7, anyway.

Looking at the web site...

The CD drivers may be slightly out of date, which is an inherent issue with v1.0 boards. The mobo says it's using USB 3.1, and there's a fairly new driver for it (9/18). I also note that if you tried to install the USB 3.0 drivers, there are separate drivers for Win 7 and Win 8.

Final point: there's a driver for the Intel management engine, that specifically needs a hot-fix installed *first* to run right on Windows 7. This may be where the problem lies. IME enumerates the devices; it would make sense if Device Manager uses it heavily.

I have updated the BIOS, installed both the hot-fix, and IME. When I try to install USB 3.1 drivers it gives me a window with an "OK" button and displays the following:

I had the same issue with my Gigabyte GA-Z170-Gaming 7 board. Took me forever to solve. I'm still not sure what is wrong with that installation package, it's broken for sure. The sys/inf driver files that it references in the "mup.xml" file are buried deep in the binary somehow, and you can see them being put in your system's temp folder but not used. You can dig them out of there and point device manager at them when updating the driver for the device, or you can get them from this very helpful post.

I have precisely the same problem with my Gigabyte Z170K Gaming 7 motherboard. I noticed the red USB 3.1 Type-A port was not working. The Device Manager did originally show the USB 3.1 eXtensible Controller and the USB 3.1 Root Hub (or I think it did, I'm beginning to doubt myself now!) so I tried to do an "Update Driver" routine and it said "You already have the latest driver installed" so I, maybe stupidly, uninstalled it thinking it would be detected and load its drivers on the next reboot. It didn't so I went through the same rigmarole that you have. Double clicking on the driver setup.exe file or even right clicking and opting for "Run as Administrator" returns the Windows Installer splash screen which, if you click on OK seems to do nothing.

Did you find a solution and "The111" can you tell us what you did to solve this please?

I have exactly the same problem with the same hardware. Tried everything I can think of with no joy. I am pulling my hair out.
Has anyone found a fix for this?
Thanks.

Someone from another forum who was helping me found the necessary files. I have sent a private message to Rlyevil 2 with my email so I can send him the files. Happy to do this for anyone else still suffering.

Even Gigabyte asked me to send them the files so they could help future customers!

Clive

Thanks so much,Clive. This has been stressing me out for days.
I even took my Computer to a computer shop and after 2 hrs gave it back to me and said get windows 10. That is not a solution.I will check my PM's now.
Again many thanks.

I'm so pleased it worked for you. I can feel your relief - which is exactly how I felt when I sorted it.

I had several issues after an expensive high spec build - so I was well pee'd off! But, all are now resolved thankfully.

All the best

Hi Clive
I have the same issue, could I also ask for your assistance?
Thanks
Chris

I am having the same issue, can you help me out please.

Snakes1000 has the solution as you can also see from the post from rlyevil, it also worked for me, gigabyte replied a week later with an illiterate response so this forum is the place to be

I have sent you a personal message with my email address asking you to email me so I can send the files.

I have not received an email from you yet. As I said, I did send you a PM from this site with the address. Did you get it?

I emailed you back the same day. I have emailed you again now. maybe check your spam?
