So I have been playing a game yesterday on my PC like I do daily but this time out of sudden, the PC restarted and it couldn't boot into Windows. Was stuck on the logo, I restarted multiple times then it started Automatic repair by itself however it gave the BSOD error (UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_DEVICE) then it restarted and so on.

I put in the Windows CD for recovery options and altered the BOOT order so that it boots from the CD. It took very very long time to get me to the screen that says "Choose your keyboard layout" then I selected advanced options >> CMD >> and tried the chkdsk /r command but it said "Windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write-protected"

I then tried the command chkdsk C:/f /r /x and now it is running through Stage 1 however it is very slow and I know this normal.

The question is, what are the possible causes for this? Also, what does it mean by the Windows cannot run disk checking? Finally, do you think the command I ran lastly would fix it by the time it finishes?

Thank you

It reads the boot device from the BIOS but just cannot boot through it. The HDD is still readable. Isn't that an indicator that it is still intact?
