My compaq sg3-220uk should accept a phenom 11 965 (according to hp website) but when i put one in it tells me that it is unsuported. Cannot find an update for bios or any setting to change. Stuck!!!!

Compaq SG3-220UK PC Product Specifications

Processor upgrade information
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
NOTE: Only Socket AM3 processors are supported with this motherboard.

AMD Phenom II X4 9xx/9xxe/8xx Quad-Core (Deneb core)
AMD Phenom II X3 7xx/7xxe Triple-Core (Heka core)
AMD Phenom II X2 5xx (Callisto core)
AMD Athlon X4 6xx/6xxe (Propus)
AMD Athlon X3 4xx/4xxe (Rana)
AMD Athlon X2 2xx/2xxe (Regor)

You're right about not finding any BIOS upgrades. There don't seem to be any out available.

I can't see any reason the motherboard would report 'Not Supported' for that CPU.
That would be a function that the BIOS would carry out.

The only thing I can recommend is try and find other Compaq SG3-220 owners who have upgraded and see what they did to be successful.

Hi wr2 thanks for your help, I'll try a few other things before buying a new mobo.
Sorry if my posts have been a bit abrupt but its my first time on these forums.
Thanks again
Tony
