hello,

i have recently upgraded my system to the following:

-Gigabyte AB350M-HD3
-Kingston HyperX Fury black 8GB 2400mhz
-Ryzen 5 1500x

iam using my old GTX960 as well as a 650W PSU

after assembling everything together i got a blue screen on which the system shut down and went into system repair. i got to the point where it offered to restore the system to an earlier date which i did with only the keyboard working. i still got the blue screen but managed to do a clean reinstall of my OS (win7)

however the USB ports dont work once the system is fully booted. they do work accessing the bios though. i have one PS\2 plug on the motherboard itself that has a split colour on it (both purple and green).
my old PS\2 keyboard works (thats how i got to reinstall windows) while the mouse does not.

iam supposing the USB drivers will need to be updated but i dont know how to do that without a functioning mouse. i also was wondering if i could use Q-Flash to update the drivers that way.

thank you for your time and help.

Question from Poultrygeist : "USB connectors not working"

i have a working PS\2 keyboard,
how would i go about installing drivers with a keyboard only?

and i dont really want win10 but for the sake of argument, if i have win7 i can just upgrade it to windows10 for free?

you might not have any choice. MS told intel and AMD to not support windows 7 with there latest CPU's so there would be no USB drivers that will work and also you won't be receiving anymore security updates even if MS won't end support for it for another 1-2 years

but from my experience i have used several windows 7 keys (used and new) to upgrade computers at home and work and windows 10 activated with all of them

ok hm interesting, i guess i should try that so.
would it be possible to download WIN10 from the MS website and put it on a USB stick to boot from there? i havent seen any options for this in the bios but then there wasnt a flash drive inserted at the time.

USB ports seem to work up untill windows needs to interact with system repair because my USB keyboard worked right untill i had hit either system restore or trying to reinstall windows.

you can go to the MS website and download the media creation tool that will allow you to load the windows setup on the USB or dvd disk
