I built a new computer for my dad but got a z170 board and a Kabylake chip
I asked around here and all I was told is that with an update to the mobo the chip will be usable on the board but they didn't said anything about having a Skylake chip in order to get into the BIOS to apply the update, so now my computer is just on/off looping and showing nothing on screen.

So if I get this:https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA2F84D69053
Skylake celeron procesor just to update will everything be ok?

Here's the link for the computer parts: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JMxBWX

Does this chips come with the update on them? if so, is it hard to intall them?

It should say in the description if it has the latest BIOS installed. [strike]Difficulty is going to be based on your soldering expertise.[/strike]This is NOT the typical resolution.

Check around your local area for Mom and Pop computer shops and see what they're going to charge for a BIOS update. If it's less the cost of the CPU you linked, that's probably the easiest route. Otherwise, you could purchase a compatible chip, update the BIOS and then try to sell it saying you only used it to update the BIOS.

As for that chip's compatibility, you'd need to know what BIOS version is currently installed. There may be a sticker on the box the motherboard came in that tells what BIOS version is installed. If it P2.20 or newer, then that Celeron chip will work.

Edit: I stand corrected!

Motherboards made after about 11/2016 will have the requisite bios already included.
You likely got old stock.

Yes, you could order that $44 cpu to do the bios update.
But, I suggest you take it to a local shop that will have such a processor and pay them to do the bios update for you.

Yes, it is.
Disregard the previous posts that suggest that the BIOS chip is soldered. It is not.

After recognizing my mistake, I started to look for BIOS chips as well and that's the one I came across as well.

I stand corrected. Thanks for the info!

Thanks everyone for the help just have a single doubt

I know chances of getting a DOA component are pretty slim, but the computer is in an On/Off loop so my question is, is the reason of this happening is because the CPU and MOBO are not compatible without the update so it rebuts all the time? So in order to fix this, getting an updated BIOS chip will fix this on/off loop and get me to the BIOS?

Ok, then the board needs a BIOS update. Now, try leaving only the CPU and CPU fan installed, both 24 and 8 pin power cables connected. No other wires or components (RAMs, graphics card, storage drives, front panel, USB etc) but the power button. Start the board and see if still on/off.

The PC is in the office so I don't have access to it right now, but the first time i turned it on it was a "on then off then back on and stayed on all the time" the monitor still showed the "no signal" message but If im not wrong since the first time it stayed on there's no problem with a PSU shortage or not enough power

But if I remove everything as you said and just leave those things you said, it should stay on?
