Hey yo,

I have just upgraded my GPU from a GTX 750ti to a GTX 1060 6GB, Bit of a step up all in the name of thrashing Battlefield 1 and bit of future proofing.

However it seems my CPU is hampering me running an AMD Phenom i've had since 2010/2011. obviously I am limited by my Mobo as to what I can go to with the AM3+ socket. So what is the better options out there for me? Aside the obvious buying a new Intel socket mobo and cpu.

Looking in the ballpark of US$100 +/-.

PC currently is,

Mobo - Gigabyte 880GA-UD3H
CPU - AMD Phenom X4 955 3.2GHz
RAM - 8GB
GPU - EVGA GTX 1060 6GB SC

Thanks in advance.

The FX series is the obvious choice. An FX-6350 is probably the bare minimum you'd want to pair with that card, ideally it'd be an 8350.

with an AM3 88 class? it should support.

heck, I've seen 68 class rocking FX 4000 series many times now. iirc, it was some ASUS board.

still, in my experience, FX 6k and 8k series usually owned by the same people who owns either 97 or 99 class.
obviously the reason was wattage.

Cheers for your thoughts, It appears they made 2 versions of the same Mobo, mine being the latter has an AM3+ socket.

Been looking around, May just have to twist the wifes arm, clean the house a few times and cough up for an Intel package I think. I cant imagine I'll get much more mileage out of the system and will have to go that way eventually.

Completely agree here.
