Hi there. I posted on this forum around 5 years ago when I first built my pc and found everyone to be very helpful. I’m hoping to rely on your wisdom once again.

I currently have the following spec pc (unchanged for about 5 years)

AMD FX-8320 Eight core professor 3500mhz,
Nvidia GeForce GTX 760,
Novatech 750w ATX PSU
8gb ram
1tb external hard drive
(Sorry if I forgot anything important)

I know this is pretty outdated now so it’s no surprise I’m running into a few issues. My pc keeps crashing randomly mid game on multiple different games and I don’t know why. I’ve checked that it isn’t overheating so that isn’t the case which makes me think it is a hardware problem.

either way, I’m looking to upgrade my pc but am unsure what to prioritise. I’m thinking I need a new gpu/ cpu but wanted to get some advice first as I can’t really afford to upgrade both and perhaps I’m completely wrong anyway!

Solution
Your CPU and GPU are obviously pretty slow by today's standards.
...and I don't think you really can't upgrade your GPU significantly without your CPU slowing everything down.
So being you can't do both right now... I would have to go for a CPU upgrade first.
