Upgrade advise. Geforce 7800GS AGP or 7900GT PCI-E

Current Setup:

Athlon 64 3200+
MSI K8N NEO2 Nforce 3
Leadtek 6600GT AGP


I just ordered a Dell 2405 and would like to play games at the native res of 1920x1200. I am on the fence between the 2 upgrade options:

1: Upgrade to a 7800GS (300USD) AGP
2: Upgrade to a 7800GT (300+USD) and buy an SLI board.(150+USD)

Is it worth spending 300USD for the 7800GS considering the future of AGP?

On the other side, will it be better to keep my motherboard and just upgrade the AGP card since it's already S939..

If you were in my place, what would you do?

Let's make it a 7900GT and a SLI motherboard. Buying 7800GT right now at 300$ is a real waste when you have the new 7900GT at the same price.
Also consider a x1800Xt.

The answer is NONE. None of those cards will play games at that res so forget it. 7800GS, don't waste your time. 7800GT, don't waste your time either. The 7900GT is coming back into stock, is faser than a GTX and will handle most games at that res, but not all. Its cheaper, or the same as the 7800GT(depending on the model). Second of all, theres plenty of great SLI boards at less than $100, around the $90-120 mark. I don't know what board you saw for $150. But it was top of the line, SLI boards top off around $150-$170. If your paying that much for a SLI mobo then go with the DF1 lanparty which is around that price. or the ASUS top of the line SLI board. 😀 Good LUCK!, Oh yeah almost forgot, 1800XT is GREAT! Its your choice.

I'm sorry, I meant the 7900GT not the 7800GT.... anyway...
what SLI board at $90-$120 would you recommend?

Another question on SLI boards... I'm seeing X16 SLI boards being sold. What's the difference between the other SLI's and the one's with the SLIX16 badge?

Getting SLI option is so cheap these days it doesn't matter.

I think I'll just wait and see how SLI x16 matures and what new chipsets / mobos come out from Nvidia now that they have Uli.

As for the Dell 2405 and 6600GT AGP I have now.. .anyone tried gaming on a lower res like 1280x800 on the 2405? How well does this monitor scale down? (I'd still want the whole screen filled.. not have black borders around the monitor)
