I have a Gateway DX4860, Intel Quad I5, INTEL MB DH55HC w 12G RAM, Windows 7 SP1. All data backed up. I want to clean install from Windows 8.1 (Full Version). Gateway recommends BIOS update before Windows 8.1 install. (Current BIOS, P01.A2 of 04/07/2011) doesn't support UEFI). Gateway provides a BIOS upgrade flash program to P11.A3 of 9/2/2013 with optional UEFI support. The installer stops before executing with an error message that reads "ROM file size does not match existing BIOS. Gateway tech support is horrible. Help!

Solution
You have Gateway DX4860, that originally shipped with Windows 7 SP1.

Gateway provides a BIOS upgrade flash program to P11.A3 of 9/2/2013 that is listed as "BIOS - UEFI for Windows 8 (Not for Upgrades)".

The tag (Not for Upgrades) means that the BIOS update can be applied on computer shipped directly from factory with Windows 8 operating system.

It can not be applied on computer's upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8.

Solution
I am also trying to update from P01.A1 to P12.A2 and I am experiencing the same problem.

It is a DX4380 with Windows 7.

Did you figure out how to update the BIOS?

After several failed attempts, I found that there was no path to support UEFI support. The Calvin7 response is accurate. I reverted to Windows 7 using "old" drivers from Gateway.
