Question Upgrade CPU from Ryzen 5 2600?

Hello all.

I have a system with a Ryzen 5 2600 running on a Gigabyte B450 DS3H. I was thinking of upgrading the CPU to a Ryzen 7 5700X. This is a secondary system as you can see in my signature.

I was wondering if the upgrade is a worthy one?

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

You have a 5900X, so you should be able to tell what you are getting already.

What are your concerns?
On my System 2, I am wanting to upgrade the CPU. System 1 is fine. I would like a little more zip out of system #2. I have been ripping and encoding my DVD and Blu Ray collection(all purchased legally) and System 2 is a sloth compared to System 1.

I use System 2 to help in this aspect and it takes roughly 3X as long to encode as System 1.

Right, so turn off 4 cores and you would have similar performance to a 5700X. Not quite the same being dual CCD, but that is about the performance you would get.

Really comes down to what you want to spend. Nothing says you can't upgrade System 1 to a 5950X and put the 5900X into system 2.

Yes, but I would need to get a new cooler as the Deepcool Gammaxx 400V2 is not approved for a 5900X.

Only you can answer that.

If you are currently at 1/3 the performance of your 5900X, upgrading to the 5700X should be closer to 2/3 the performance since it has 2/3 the number of cores. You have to ask if that is enough for the cost.

If it were me, and I was buying the last AM4 CPU I intended to buy, then I would consider two options.

5950X to max out the socket.
Or if System 1's main purpose is gaming. Get a 5700X3D or 5800X3D and move the 5900X to the encoding system.
I suppose a second 5900X is an option and cheaper than a 5950X, and you know what you are getting performance wise.

My main encoding software is Handbrake and from what I have read, Handbrake only uses 6 cores as of right now. FYI, I use Handbrake on Linux. From what I see, Handbrake isn't that much faster on a 5900X vs. a 5700X.
