Was really wondering what I should upgrade first on a budget gaming rig I have.

Specs:
CPU: AMD FX 6100 @ 4.2 Ghz
GPU: GTX 560 1gb @ 930 Mhz
Motherboard: MSI 970a-G46 (VRM's/Power phase design won't let me get past 4.2Ghz @ 1.39 vcore)
RAM: Team 2x4gb 1600Mhz
HDD: 500gb WD Blue 7200rpm
Case: Zalman Z9
CPU Cooler: Xigmatek Gaia (Setup with Push/Pull)
Monitor: Dell S2240L IPS 1080p 21.5"
Mouse: Razer Death Adder 2013
Keyboard: Cheap Logisys blue LED one

I was thinking I could get an 1150 mobo and 4670k for around $360 USD, or a GTX 760 and new AMD mobo to overclock the 6100 more for the same price. Anything in that price range for an upgrade is cool.

Solution
Go for the GPU you already have a good CPU. The FX CPU's are more capable than some give them credit for. And your GPU is quite abit out of date a GTX 760 will give you a good upgrade from where you are. The motherboard you already have can handle CPU's all the way up to the FX-8320 so you could get a GTX 760 and a CPU upgrade for less money than a new CPU and motherboard and be set for what ever game you want to play with no problems. A FX-6350 and GTX 760 can be had for around $399 or less depending on sale price. While that might be just alittle bit higher than a CPU+Motherboard the performance increase would be well worth it go from the 560 to a GTX 760 alone would be a good increase because the CPU you have now is not really bad at...

I think a 990fx and 760 would be perfect, but I wouldn't want to spend $100+ on a motherboard that's socket is going to get outdated soon, is this going to stick around a little longer?

the 6100 is a good cpu? by far the worst of the fx series is the x100. i wouldnt throw any money at that system until you change that out.

It's not as bad as you think it is. When I went to my friends house we compared framerates between his i5 3350p and 650ti boost, and my fx 6100 and gtx 560 and they were almost identical, in benchmarks it's not the best but it gets the job done.

I've heard from a lot of people that my motherboard can't handle any of the 8 core FX CPUs, which are 125w, so the 4350 and 6350 might also have a problem on the board because they're also 125w, and I like to overclock so i may get the 760 and 6300 and OC it up right before the motherboard decides it's too much.
