Question Upgrade existing PC or buy a new one ?

Hello, my friend has a MSI X370 GAMING PRO CARBON motherboard, and is looking to buy a new computer. He told me he plays very very rarely so I told him to upgrade his current one instead.

It has a Ryzen 7 1700 CPU and GTX 680 GPU.

I told him to upgrade to a better Ryzen CPU and a 3070 Ti GPU.

I would like to ask here what would you recommend. I also to told him to add 2 x 8 GB RAM, currently it has only 16GB, but it can be upgraded to 32GB. Is there any other GPU you would recommend me, or any other path worth taking over this? I dont even know if the 3070 would be supported, since that is an insane jump from GTX 680. Or is it not worth upgrading at all?

Thing is, if your friend wants advice he should be posting here. For all we know he might not want any advice any all, from you or us, so this could all be a waste of time.

Then there's the matter of not knowing the exact details of his PC and what he wants to do with it. Every time we ask something, you have to go ask him which you might not get quite right, then you'll relay his reply to us which may also not be quite right.

It's not even clear why he needs a new computer, or why you're recommending a 3070 Ti upgrade if he games so very rarely.

Ask him to sign up and post here, if he does want help.

RX 6600 is a little faster than a GTX1080 in older games. If they like Nvidia, an alternative would be the RTX 3060 or 4060 for a bit more.
