I just spent over $500 dollars upgrading my computer from the 2012 FX 8350 to the 2015 flagship i7 6700k, and in the first game I test, Assassins Creed: Unity, my performance was identical. Not even 5 fps difference 45 fps AVG with Fx 8350 and 47 fps AVG with i7 6700k. What is happening what possible reason could there be for the performance to be identical. Before you ask the GPU is not a bottleneck sitting around 60% usage most of the time.

Full system specs:
i7 6700k
ASUS Express Maximus VII
800 Watt gold rated EVGA
8 GB DDR4 @ 3200
GTX 980
1 TB hard drive

Assassins creed is a terrible game to be testing this on, the kind of games where you will see a huge jump in performance will be CPU heavy games, for example MOBA games (League,DOTA2) also higher spec games like battlefield 4 and Fall out 4 should be a fair increase in speed. Assassins creed is a poorly optimised game for PC's as it is so try something else :)
