Upgrade GFX Card $150 budget

Well the time has arrived to upgrade my video card and maybe even the power suply on my three year old HP. The system has a 256 mb Geforce 7500 LE with a 300 watt power supply on board. Im pretty sure that any upgraded card will consume much more power than this dated supply can provide. So, I am looking to you guys for some suggestions on my possible options. I have seen budget cards for around $60, but I cant seem to put my finger on a power supply that will work for me. Im heading off to school next spring to major in electrical engineering, so it may be in my best interest to buy a new pc altogether? Ill give this PC to my niece if I decide To go that route. Looks like she will be get a refreshed system. 😀

I'm assuming the $150 budget includes a new PSU.

You can buy a 5670, that will work on that PSU. Then you wouldn't need a PSU upgrade.

With that you could run better graphics cards, but you wouldn't have enough money to get too much better than the 5670 anyway. Maybe a 5750 if you don't mind MIRs.

thanks for the quick replies guys. i luke te specs of the 5750 but will the 380 watt power supply feed that beast? i googled and found recommendations of at least 450 watts. i also am wondering if this card will fit it my rig. this appears to be a" double decker" . how will i know if it fits before i order it? i know that is a silly question, but i want to be sure. im typing this on my phone so please excuse the grammer mistakes.

That's even better news. Just ordered both of them through newegg. All reviews say the 5750 is a great mid range card for the price. Will my cpu and mono allow me to fully push this card. Also, what avenue can i pursure in order to mildy overclock this thing without causing too much of a fuss voltage wise? Maybe you guys have some quick tips for getting the most out of this card? Thanks again!
