Hi all,

I was wondering if some one could help with a couple of components to upgrade my sisters PC as a Christmas present. My budget isn't amazing so I'm trying to figure out what I can upgrade bit by bit with the existing components still working.

She currently has the below:

I've checked some compatibility sites and it seems that this CPU is pretty much the top the motherboard can handle so I was thinking: If I change the motherboard to something that could support a Ryzen 5 or 7 series at a later date that could still support this CPU? Then I think that causes another problem as, from what I can find, the DDR3 she has won't be supported?

So, would I need to change the mobo and RAM in the first instance, and what would you recommend?

Solution
The very best performance upgrade would be a ssd for windows.
A 500gb samsung 860 for example:

Conversion is trivial using the samsung ssd migration app:

For better cpu performance, you have no reasonable upgrade on your motherboard.
I am impressed with the performance of the i3-10100 processor:

You would need to upgrade the CPU, motherboard and ram all at once. Prices are high for CPUs at the moment. What country are you in?

She already has a PC , for games get her Xbox series X for $500 , or PS5 , it will be like a PC worth $1200 in price .
Xbox series X is similar to a PC with
with RTX 2080 , 8 cores Ryzen CPU , 1TB NVME SSD , controllers , 16 GB RAM .

Hey man In the bottom I made a setup for your needs.
Its really cool that you want to upgade your sisters platform a little.

truthfully I dont know if standard parts are going to fit inside that old case, because it might be a custom formfactor.
Im not entirely sure but I want to check that for you.

2 x 8gb ddr4 ram, any speed is fine, Intel does not depend on ram speed:
