I currently have a I7-860 and I am getting the upgrade itch. I am having trouble deciding which could I want. I have narrowed it to I7-6700, or 5930, or 5920. I am a gamer although haven't been playing for awhile. My current 860 still performs well with my nvidia gtx 770. I would like opinions and advice. I am a disabled vet so I am home all the time and I like my PC to be ready for gaming. Thanks

i7-860 with a GTX770 is a pretty decent 'high end' build today. CPU is about half the speed of chips you are looking at. Roughly the same with the GPU about half the performance capability as a GTX980Ti.

If you are sticking with the single GPU then I think the i7-6700 is the better option, though unless you are doing something other then gaming, an i5-6600 would also be fine. You could even keep the GTX770 for a while longer. The CPU change should improve minimum frame rates in a lot of newer games.

I would say for your use you don't need a 5930 or 5920, for gaming a skylake i5 (i5-6600K for example or any other i5-6XXX) would be your best bet but Hawswell i5's are good too, boardwell i5's are ok if you don't overclock too.. Are you building a totally new system or just swapping stuff around?

This was my other issue a new PC or buy parts and case and have someone like Micro Center put it together hopefully using some of the upgraded parts in my current PC. In the last year I put in a SSD drive for the OS, 2x2 TB data drives, upgraded the video card to a gtx 770 with a 850 watt power supply. It started out as a Dell XPS 8000 and as I said it runs good. I called a service rep at Micro Center about using all the parts listed above in a new build but he said well they may not work even though I tried to explain to him they were NOT Dell parts. So there's the whole story and I thought maybe buy a new case, mother board, and CPU and I would have a new machine. But I suppose I would have to purchase a new retail Windows 10 , cooler, etc so it's adding up on a military pension.
Any imput is greatly appreciated .
