im looking to upgrade from my current setup but i dont want to put alot of money into the system like around $2000...should i upgrade now or wait for direct x 10 to come out with windows vista? my problem is im gona buy vista when it comes out and i wana make sure ill be able to play dx10 games when they come out...any help is greatly appreciated

Upgrade now, wait for vista SP1 before upgrading to DX10. Remember that DX10 REQUIRES vista to run. (according to last article I read about this at either this site or anandtech.) As such, games most likely won't come out soon that are DX10 only, and you'd have to use a first run MS OS inorder to use it. I don't know about you, but I don't like useing first edition operating systems. Upgrade now, move to vista in about 2+years. By then DX10 games will be getting good, and SP1 should be out.

Realy you system specs look pretty good if i was you I would say maybe just upgrade your video card (if your a gammer) and then wait like the previous poster said until vista comes out and is up and running on SP1. Unless your one of those types who wants to run the lastest and greatest OS at the expense of stabliity I would wait.

I Don`t Think Your System Needs Any Upgrade !! GeForce 6800GT Is Still A Very Good Card Even In HighGraphic Games Like F.E.A.R. & CoD2 ...
I Say Do Not Upgrade & Wait A Bit Longer & Then Upgrade To Something Much Bigger Than 7900GTX or X1900XTX ...
Oh , BTW If You Wish To Play Better Just Upgrade Your Memory To 2Gb ... It`s Not Very Expensive ...

In my opinion, your current config looks good. If you want to do some upgrades to help hold you over, you might consider this: there are some retailers (i.e. Best Buy, Office Max) that offer extended warranties. Now, I normally ignore "add-ons" that retails push like this, but some retailers have made them more attractive. For another 20 bucks or so, you can return your hardware (RAM, video card, etc.) to the store at any time within 2 years of the purchase date for any reason whatsoever, and get the original purchase price as credit to something else. My brother bought a video card from Office Max, bought the extended plan, and a year later got $200 credit towrards his next video card. If this is something you'd consider, then you'd have some credit towards your Vista build and you can help with some current upgrades as well. Normally these retailers' seletion sucks, but it's a thought... Good luck!

the thing is i have another system that is in need of a upgrade now! its running an old 5200 ultra and my 6800GT would work nicely comparibly i just need somthing to play GRAW and BF2 at high settings and a few SM3.0 games i play here and there at preferrably the highest settings...ive been thinking on just getting a 7600GT for the time to upgrade to pci-e from agp....anybody have other suggestions?
