I just got an R9 380 4GB to replace my hd7770, it is a vast improvement however I think the system is being held back somewhat. I have 12GB of RAM consisting of two mis-matched modules of 4GB and 8GB, an FX 6300 CPU and a 430W PSU (Lower than recommended for this system). I don't think the CPU is a bottleneck in the typical sense but some games are more CPU intensive (See COD Warzone, Planetside 2 etc.) So i'm unsure what to do...

What would benefit most from an upgrade for gaming performance, CPU, RAM or PSU? OR would it be best to upgrade all 3? I'd like to spend as little as possible.

I don't care about loading times I just aim to play at low settings, 1080p and extremely consistent 60fps.

Solution
Open Task Manager and keep an eye on it while you're running your CPU intensive games. If the CPU is consistently running at or near 100% while gaming, that is what's holding you back.

As far as performance upgrades are concerned, it doesn't make sense to try an upgrade an older platform like yours. You need a complete core system upgrade (CPU/Motherboard/RAM) to a newer platform. However, given your under-powered power supply, that should be the first thing to replace, regardless of performance issues.

Yes, CPU intensive games tend to run at 100%. As I only really play FPS games without regard for graphical fidelity, I wanted to avoid a complete upgrade but I will look at my options.

as for the PSU, I had a corsair 430w which couldn't handle the power draw for longer than 10 mins and would switch off. I tried another 430w EVGA I had and that works fine, surprisingly (for now). I will upgrade when circumstances allow. Thank you.

I totally agree with what Wolf mentioned about your system. It is time for an upgrade....however, sensing the "got to get some money together" aspect too.

You are absolutely going to need a good PSU regardless of what you upgrade to. I would focus on that aspect first. Keep watch as PSU pricing is all over the place right now and well priced decent quality units can be either hard to find, or middle May before you see it.
I would suggest in the meantime that you find a matching set of 16GB DDR3 @1866 or 1600 used on the cheap. Should help a little bit with your frame rate. The key on this aspect is CHEAP, as really this money will be thrown away as a 'tide you over' on this system.

Your senses are keen :) It's hard to justify expensive upgrades on an 8 year old system in such unstable times. Good advice on the used part the retail prices seem relatively high at the moment.
