[SOLVED] Upgrade to 2017 budget build

I spent some time snooping here and built a computer in 2017 mostly to try something new (I really enjoyed it!).

The original idea was to not spend too much and have something I could add to or tweak as the years went by. It's only used for basic tasks - browsing, minimal streaming and home office use, but the kids are growing up and I imagine games featuring more.

Has anyone suggestions on what to add/change to push back complete obsolescence?

I can't imagine getting spousal approval for more than £200

For your budget and for gaming you'll want to get a dedicated graphics card. A good one for the price is the AMD RX 570 and will work fine with your existing parts.

I would also get this its a cheap way to add some functionality and multitasking capability to any desktop:

Another great idea for a future upgrade is to wait until you can get an upgraded CPU. I would wait to find a used or new 7600, 7600k or a 7700, 7700k for a reasonable price. That would be a massive upgrade to your computer.

Thanks for your help! I was worrying about compatibility when buying another single stick of RAM, but I suppose if I buy from Amazon then I can always return it.

As for used CPUs, is this generally accepted as being ok? I know I'll be taking some risk, but people do do this?

That stick has the highest chance at being compatible with your current one because it is the same exact one that you currently have.

I assume your worries are about used CPUs. There is always a risk with buying used CPUs, however, as long as it works generally you won't have issues. DOA used CPU's are less rare because you are buying them used. I have had luck both buying and selling used parts with no issues. If you buy used parts through eBay/Amazon with PayPal for instance you are almost guaranteed the ability to get your money back if a used part is DOA.
