Greetings ..
now with all benchmark reveal and 1080 hit the market i thinking to upgrade my R9 290 tri-x(@CROSSFIRE) setup to gtx 1080.. OR should wait for gtx 1070 and do SLI config ..i saw those beautiful new bridges... I’m only interesting 4k/60 fps gaming but as i saw from benchmark gtx 1080 cant deliver this..

Solution
honestly I own a gtx 1080 it's not nearly as fast as jayz2cents linus tech etc I done my frame rates on steam and didn't get nearly as high as they done the gtx 1080 isn't as fast as the gtx 980 sli as people thought prior to coming out if you're into frame rates then u ought to wait to go with the gtx 1070 or wait even longer to avoid paying the extra 100 dollar charges like they done with the gtx 1080

Can you post some benchmarks or fps im trying to decide between sli 1070 and 180 single

are you joking my gtx 1080 is on fire it runs every game even tombraider from 60 - 120 FPS on epic

well that depends on your monitor if it's 1080p 2560x1440p or 4k , I own a 32 " 4k monitor using a gtx 1080 and had a gtx 980 ti in the past, I had around 55-60 fps on gta 5 and I got about the same amount of fps with 2 extra gigs of vram but other than that not much of a difference

You do not need SLI (or Crossfire) any more. The future key phrase is "explicit multi adapter". Of course you need special "ingredients" for this like Windows 10 DX12 coded titles. Then no matter the card(s) in your system you may add more to increase performance the way you see fit. Think about it, nVidia sitting next to AMD card delivering top performance at low costs as possible, totally annihilating any Crossfire and/or SLI configurations. It will not matter at all. All you need as extra is strong PSU but not like you used to when doing SLI in the past and a high inch high resolution as possible monitor/TV set.

PS That is why nobody cares about the lack of SLI on GTX 1060. 😉

1 thing I don't like , you see the 144 hz monitors on 2560x1440p as well as 1080p , to achieve the frame rates you will need the extra power to get 144 fps , in older games you don't need the extra gpu but the new games you probably will

For the games that the additional card is needed "explicit multi adapter" is here to help us use any kind and of card that may even cost lower than the one already in the system.

The future is free from SLI/Crossfire for multiple card configurations. :wahoo:

I went from trifire r9 295x2 an r9 290x to just one 1080 for my 4k setup, it is an incredible jump! Runs 4k smoother then when trifire is running. Using zotec amp extreme 1080 2050 core clock when running in firestorm no adjustments made.

website Im starting and Im starting off with a comp.

actually the (2) GTX 1070 are not confirmed yet. I may end up with (2) Galax HOF 1070 with custom bridge. stay tuned.

One thought. I have personally seen people running with the latest BIOS on some Z MBs who get much better gaming FPS on the GTX 1080 pulling back to 16GB if they were running at 32GBs so try that if in this category.

Also, consider another (emergency solution) to the GTX 1080 is coming possibly imminently, the dual Polaris 10 RX 490. AMD may sell this at a low margin and it should beat a single 1080 in most major titles. Knowing AMD my guess is they are already being readied for a surprise launch near the RX 460 launch and might be the reason for a lower than expected RX 480 supply. Regardless, AMD has good reason to keep most games working smoothly with their top end card with good driver support.

I just bought a 1070 with my setup and am running a 24" asus 144hz 3d monitor and i cant really run BF4 or Crysis fullout very well. it can but not on an open vegitated map, goes down to like 38fps... was thinking of either overclocking my 6600k or getting a second msi GTX 1070

Asus Sabertooth Z170-s
Intel i5 6600k 3.3 - 3.7 boosted
Thermal Take Water cooled
24 Gb Kingston Hyper DDR4 2666
Msi 8GB Armor 1070 OC Edition
Samsung EVO 850 SSD
750w Tough Gold Thermal Take Power Supply
Asus 24" 144hz 3D monitor

i have a gtx 960 and wondering if i should go 1080 or sli 1070 what are you thoughts?

I had a gtx 1080 running in 4k wasn't much of a improvement over the gtx 980 ti so I returned the gtx 1080 and gotten 2 gtx 1070s and a hb bridge and put them in SLI I was getting over 100 fps in gta 5 etc,,,,, mafia 2 over 200 fps be interesting to see what mafia 3 would run on 4 k with the 2 1070s

I bought 2 gtx 1070s and a hb bridge for SLI and returned my gtx 1080 , to be more specific the 2 gtx 1070s beats the gtx 1080 by a 40% increase over the gtx 1080,,,,, I done my benchmarks on gta 5 with the 2 gtx 1070s I gotten 140-160 fps in 4k , on normal settings , rise of the tomb raider around 100 fps on max and also tried the frame works on older games like watchdogs and mafia 2 140 fps easy
as I said b4 the gtx 1080 gotten me upper 40s to 50s in 4k in gta 5 same amount in rise of the tomb raider t
there's a major increase over the gtx 1080 I've done my benchmarks over n over again and still get the same frames

Nice. I'm gonna try a GTX 1080 paired up with an old S3 Virge with 256KB of ram I found in an old box in my basement. It's from 1989...

(I'm kidding of course LOL)...

In any case I'm looking to do 2 x 1080 on the machine I am building right now. I plan to run 3 x 34 inch Dell monitors at 10320 x 1440 and see if I can play Need for Speed without throwing up...

Right ATM I am running one on 2 GTX 970's but that will soon change...I plan to purchase the other 2 monitors soon, the U3417's could be out by then...

Maxx

that's too much power for me to deal with I rather stick with my 2 gtx 1070s in sli on my 4k monitor i'm debating going with a 1080 p 144 hz monitor instead of keeping the 4k monitor b/c the 4k monitor needs a lot of graphic power

noticed when I ran games in 4k after awhile the graphic cards would run so loud sounds like a jet engine getting ready to fly right out of the case and a friend told me to run a game that I have that are at least 5-10 yrs old that don't require that much graphic power and see if it continues but it doesn't and now I know it's the monitor not the cards

really?, i have the msi gaming x gtx 1070 and the bt4 run even in 4k at 45fps ~, at 1080p run at 60fps all the time without drop frames. i think you should do OC.

My rig:

msi x99a gaming 7
msi gaming x gtx1070
corsair ddr4 3200mhz
intel core i7 5930k 4.4ghz(OC)
corsair h105
kingston savage 240gb
cooler master 1000v
LG 24GM77 144hz

If it were me, I'd forgo a 1070 SLI and opt for a single 1080 or better yet, hang in and wait for the 1080Ti. Your 6600K won't bottleneck either GPU and you have way more ram than you'll ever need for gaming. Hope this helps.

as of right now , on 10/18/2016 I downgraded from a 4 k monitor to a 1080 p 144 hz monitor for 4k gaming the gpus will have to use a lot of power and dealing with heat is a must ever since I went down from a 4k to 1080 p I killed 2 problems with 1 solution the heat is gone , the computer wouldn't start and shut down and restart again, ever since I went with the 1080 p I don't deal with the issues when u use 4k or higher resolutions
