i plan to upgrde to windows XP soon but dont know which edition to choose; Pro or Home. when installed, which edition occupies more space? pls help.. thanks..

I don't think you should base your upgrade choice to which edition occupies more space after installation. There should be more factors, like what you [like to] use your computer for, what you're upgrading from, if you're happy with what you have now, things like that.

In my opinion, if you have Win98, 95, or ME, then it'd be worth your while to upgrade for the increase of stability. If you're coming from Windows 2000, and you're happy with it, then you should stay with it, because there isn't much of a difference, other a broader driver support and maybe an increase of gaming performance.

There are some things you should take into consideration. Software incompatibilities, hardware incompatibilities, and non-supported hardware. If you do decide to plunge into this, make sure you back everything up. Even better, if you have Drive Image or Norton Ghost, then image your current setup, so you can go back to it with minimum fuss.

P.S. Since you wanted to know, after a Windows XP Pro fresh install, it came to about 1GB.

hi could you tell me about why Xp is more stable than win95/98/ME? im using win98SE... but ive tried all three and i think ME sucks. what can you get from XP...
to give you a hint of what i do... i play games and do the normal wordprocessing, but grafx is important to me...
will the upgrade be useful?

It's stable. Nuff said. I can't tell you how nice it is to have a system that doesn't crash once a day at least. This OS actually works the way it's supposed to out of the box. Just go to windows update and get the latest fix and cd writer drivers and you're good to go.

The boot and shutdown speed is nice but not a good reason. Nonetheless it boots in less than a min.

The driver rollback has been very usefull. It never worked in ME. Nothing in ME worked.

For the most part you don't have to install drivers. On my system the only drivers that were necessary were the Nvidia ones for my videocard. On other systems I've had to install drivers for the modem and decoder card as well though. The big improvment though is that you don't have to worry about promise controller drivers, chipset drivers, and 4in1 drivers. I suppose in the future we'll get better performance with other drivers, but for now it's fine.
