i have had bad experience in the past with upgrading os(win98 to 98se, 95 to 98, 3.11 to 95). is there a difference between the upgrade and full versions of xp? i can't afford the full version but does the upgrade keep some of the old os crap or act a little buggy? i read that one thread about installing win xp ona blank hd, had anyone really done that successfully? if so was it hard or were there any side effects to making it do something it wasn't meant to do?

repeat after me, we are all individuals!

If you get the upgrade version, you can format your HD and start the WinXP installation. It'll ask for a previous OS, which is when you stick your Win98 CD in (full, not upgrade). Then, you can continue with a clean install.

I would recommend a clean install over an upgrade for any OS installation.
