Why do you need to upgrade your CPU? It's really good in today's standards

U do no that U will never ever have the best or the fastest or the greatest for more than one clock cycle?
It is just a temporary fleeting feeling of satisfaction, but on the other hand, the chip you buy will always run as fast as the day you buy it.

Getting a GeForce 6800GT will be a better investment.

Your CPU is already a good match for your videocard so it wont really help. If it is a socket 754 board, I would just get the a64 3400+ and a x800 or gf6800 serie video card. Socket 939..well maybe a 3800+ as the 3500+ lost to the 3400+ in most benchmark. That would run about the same price or more for the 939 solution as the fx but with much better overall performance. Is'nt what matter?

Socket 754 with FSB 800 MHz
i was thinking ..get a good cpu now and later on in a good gf card like the x800..

then get the 3400+ AND a nice graphics card for the same price of a FX. You'll enjoy your system way better than with just a fast processor. If you search thru this forum, you'll fin a thread about socket 754 vs 939 benchmark and you'll see that paying more for high end 939 is a waste of money for now.

ok stupid question..does the fx amds enhance the already games out or games will come out specifically for the 64 fx architecture?bit confused here ty

The nforce3 ultra is a chipset for s939.
This whole thread is insane. When you talk about a 10% cpu upgrade for gaming, it is a total waste. You will only get a couple % higher frame rate. It's time to invest in some high end whisky.

The A64 architecture is all the same except

roughly,
socket 754: a64 core with single channel
socket 939: a64 core with dual channel
FX cpu: a64 core with dual channel and increased cache size

There is some other difference, but that roughly the main difference betwen socket. That's mean that the fx is only the fastest chip and cost too much.

Having a fast CPU in a slow system wont speed overall operation, only those crunching task. Game are mostly limited by video card on A64 system, so you wont really see speed increase if you dont have a better than an ATI 9800xt card to match with.
