upgrade!!!!

Gentlemen:
need to upgrade a celery 333 with intel i740 8meg agp
yamaha isa sound, abit bh6 motherboard. my drives and
other peripherals have been upgraded. need power for gaming.
what do you recommend I buy?
money is no object..........
well under $400.00 for board, proc and vid card.

i would say go with a duron youy can get a 700 for about 80 dollars
bassically anything out htere is going to better than that celleron you have in it right now

800 mhz Thunderbird CPU - $98

Total - $380 or $398

This is weighted toward gaming with a better graphics card rather than a faster CPU. If you want to go $23 higher a Thunderbird 1000 mhz is a great deal at $121

you forgot about memory. Most likely if he is running a celeron of that speed hes going to have pc100 at best. It could be cas3 or cas2. Given the age and cpu its most likely cas3, amds dont like cas3. just something i thought i should point out.

Those guys are nuts. You can SAVE money by getting a PIII 700 and overclocking it IF your board revision supports coppermines, then take the rest of your money and buy that fancy video card and memory, I would suggest a GTS and Crucial Cas2.

Kal326, I did not forget but Toploser said that "money is no object" except for the motherboard, graphics card and CPU for which he set a maximum of $400.

I gave a recommendation that meets that requirement. I assumed he will be making all other choices on his own.

Toploser, for the record I also recommend Crucial PC133 CAS2 memory. At $61 for 128 mb, 7.5 ns and no shipping charges it is hard to beat.
