Upgraded from i7-960 to a i7-14700k. Bought the mobo from Amazon used ($154) and the CPU from Microcenter ($370). Mainly because of a copy of Elden Ring I could never play, getting back into WoW and all the BG3 accolades from 2023. No video card yet, so waiting on some deals for 2024.

Kept the same case (Antec Sonata III), but cut out drive bays to make way for a lengthy card.

Upgrades:
Mobo: EVGA X58 SLI FTW3 to ASRock Riptide PG Z790
Memory: DDR 3 8GB to DDR5 32GB
Video Card: GTX 570 to ???
Power: 600 to 750
SSD Drives: SATA EVO 850/860
Win10 to Win11

Yup, you will certainly notice a difference. :ROFLMAO:
One nice way to watch for GPU prices is to create a build in pcpartpicker and then add any GPUs that you are interested in and set price alerts.

What is the make/model of your psu?
That is what will limit how strong of a graphics card you can use.

As to specific cards, you will want a significant jump in capability or you may be disappointed.
Mostly you will get fair value at any price point.
Avoid the top factory overclocked versions.
Tom's gpu hierarchy chart will help classify cards:

Look for something in the GTX4000 class or better.
Because you are familiar with the nvidia driver system, I would stick with nvidia.

the XPG Reactor II is a good model. I would suggest you wait to see if you get price cuts on the vanilla 4070. Its a good buy for 1080p long term if the price is around 430 USD. maybe even have a look at the used market.

cheaper alternative would be RX6750XT or the 6700XT.
