Upgraded from 4850 to 6870, BF3 now unplayable??

Was so excited to receive my new:

today, until i started to play and BF3 was completely unplayable on any settings whereas I could play just fine on low with my ati 4850. I was getting a CTD a minute or two into every game as well would just freeze up no matter where I was. Have not messed around with any settings in CCC yet, although GPU usage did not seem high, temp. either.

dual core 3.0ghz
ati 6780 1gb
162gb hd
600w PSU

After a bunch of research I see that my cpu is not really up to par, but how is it that a new video card has hurt my performance? less RAM available? I was able to play fine on low with the 4850, little lag in close quarters fighting which i upgraded to try to combat that with, but to avail as of yet. Any help or suggestions are very much appreciated.

are your graphic drivers up to date and who made your PSU?

It could be because you don't have PhysX. Frostbite 2 has a component called Destrustion 3.0 which requires a lot of PhysX processing.
As to why you could play it on the 4850, that's beyond me.

drivers are up to date and psu is made by something star cant read it.
I have windows 7-32 bit

Your psu sounds suspect.
Antech corsair or seasonic 500w or greater should fix your issue

i wouldnt think a 6870 would use any more power than a 4850 buy is your power supply a decent brand one for starters, not that this would solve your problem but you definately need a decent quad core processor i noticed a big difference between my q9400 overclocked to 3.4 and my 2500k and prob about 6gb usable ram (my system regularly uses 6 or my 8gb of ram during bf3) if you want a decent looking experience with bf3

Install Windows 7 64-bit (if you can / if your PC supports it). What's your CPU?
You're only using 3.5GB of RAM on 32-bit. Home Premium 64-bit can go up to 16GB.

Try re-installing Windows, too.

Theres a difference between a bottleneck and crashing while gaming.

The 4850 uses around 100-110 w at full load as the 6870 uses around 150.
The crashes with the upgraded gpu is most likely due to a crap power supply.

my cpu is intel e84000
i suppose before spending any money I will try to install 64 bit, if not then reinstall windows. Really thought i could run on high with just a gpu upgrade, everyone told me quad core would only be necessary for ultra, seems to very some very conflicting advice in that department. Thank you all for the suggestions.

Sounds like a power supply issue to me.
