Today I upgraded to a better ryzen cpu for my am4 motherboard, however like a donut I installed it without updating the bios. No big deal right 🙃 so I installed my previous cpu and tried to boot the pc so that I could download an updated version of the BIOS. However after installing my previous cpu I still have no display like I did with the newer cpu installed. I have tried resetting the CMOS as well as removing the motherboard battery both didn’t work. Any ideas guys am I being stupid?

sorry forgot to put it in

The old cpu I am trying to boot up is an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X

Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX B450-F Gaming II ATX AM4

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x16 32GB

GPU: MSI Geforce RTX 2070 8gb

The new cpu i have just bought and need to update bios for is an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D

Unplug the PSU from the wall and hold the power button down, you want to drain any and all power out of the PSU and MB caps. Then remove the CMOS batter and reset the bios. Leave it like that for a while, go make something to eat, watch a movie, just leave it alone for a while.... after a while put the battery back in and plug the PSU back into the wall and see if it will boot.

If that doesnt work start swearing at it, threaten it with a glass of water, or tell it you will send it back for an RMA without the socket cover 😱 Get angry at it

Will definitely threaten it, I have tried this numerous times unfortunately with unplugging and removing the battery. Also when it starts there is a white light showing on the motherboard which must be obviously telling me I have no display? Also when u say reset the bios do u do this just by removing the battery or do I also have to hold a screwdriver on the pins for the CLRTC.

We shall see

Yes i would remove the battery and short the CLRTC pins to reset the bios

well i just looked up your manual an you have a bios flashback button on the back.

Install the 3700x, download the new Bios on a USB stick and put it in the USB port right under the ethernet port. LINK read through page 2-14 of the manual for bios flashback.

What does the bios flashback button do? Didn’t even realize I had one just eating as instructed whilst the battery is out 3700x is already in. So I’m gonna press the flashback button boot the pc and use it to install the bios update on a usb stick then plug it in under Ethernet once rebooted. 😁

Forgot to reply as the ping thing

Mistake on my part I don't have a flashback button as it is a normal ASUS ROG STRIX B450 not a B450 II have seen the manual for my correct motherboard now only have the CLRTC Points which i have been connecting with a screwdriver .

Update plugged battery back in after resetting bios etc booted up still white light on motherboard and no picture. I do have a laptop I could try and download the bios update on there and plug the usb back into the pc can’t see it working tho If I can’t get any picture anyway

Looking at page 1-10 in the manual, it the white light is at the top left of the ram slots. If what you are saying is true, then the white light is a VGA issue. Try moving your gpu to another slot and see if it will boot up.

Took it to a specialist got sick of working on the [] he’s had it for a day now still not heard anything will wait see what the problem was. Thanks for all your help tho
