Hi,

I bought an Asus vg248qe a few days ago. I set it up, but when I try LoL or DotA 2 they both look like playing on my old 60 hz monitor and I'm not exactly sure why.

Details:

  • 1. The monitor is connected via DVI-D dual link to my Nvidia Geforce GTX 750 ti.
    2. Under Screen Resolution>Advanced Settings>Monitors I have the refresh rate set to 144 hz.
    3. I'm running Windows 8.1 (I'm not sure if this is an issue or not)
    4. My FPS in LoL is 200+ FPS and in DotA 2 120+ FPS, so my FPS is not the issue (running full-screen mode with v-sync off)
    5. My Nvidia global settings

    6. My Nvidia display settings

    7. The installation CD that came with the monitor is giving me errors

I think this last point might be what's causing issues, but I'm not certain because I'd be downgrading from my current version (335.23) to 331.82.

I don't think I missed any other details other than that. Any ideas why in games it still looks like 60 hz? I was told that going from 60 hz to 144 hz would be a noticeable difference in terms of smoothness, but I haven't noticed anything at all.

Solution
Well reason why you don't see difference because there really is not noticeable difference.

Unless game is some fast pace action (imagine some action movie and really top speed with explosions all around, bullets, shrapnels, ...) you won't see real difference. Other thing is that most people are not used/trained to notice that difference on conscious level (wont talk about subcouncious level). People like pro gamers or combat pilots with top reflexes may see difference. Many other will tell you that there is difference because they wont admit that their new 144 Hz monitor looks same as old 60Hz.

Games like Lol or Dota are actually slow in comparison with that so you wont really see any difference because there is nothing to see even...
have you made sure that the driver configuration is set to 144hz?

have you made sure your pc can run the game at 144fps?

not matter what some of this shit here on this post is inexcusably stupid. the game is not capped at 60hz. that's just retarded. i won't get into the debate on how much better 144hz is compared to 60hz, but i will say it's noticeable for many but for some it has no effect.
