Hi all so I’m pretty lost when it comes to upgrading my pc. So I currently have an alienware aurora r7 with an i7-8700 16gb of ram and a gtx 1080. I use my pc for gaming as well as video editing, graphic design and architectural design. I was looking into upgrading to an i9 processor with more ram and an SSD could anyone offer some insight into what exactly I would have to do to upgrade everything?

If that's what the interior of your case looks like, then no, that's just not going to work. You need a new case - on top of the 1st 3 points I made, for an I9 upgrade.
You would have to replace:
-the power supply, as it's only really intended for the original build.
-replace the motherboard with a Z390 model - one that has a decent VRM heatsink. The cheapest is going to be around 200USD.
-the I9 pretty much demands liquid cooling, so check if your current case supports either 280 or 360mm AIOs. If not, you'll have to replace the case too. If you instead opt for the 9900-non K, then you should be fine with a high end air cooler.
-reinstall Windows after making the changes.

So my current build actually already came with the alienware liquid cooling system . Also would the 9900 be better than the 9900K?

1)I don't know what the Alienware liquid cooling system consists of. Could you elaborate?
2)No. It is the locked version of the K model. It can't be overclocked, nor does it boost as high - enough that I could recommend high end air coolers for it, like the NH-D15S and Dark Rock Pro 4.

I believe it’s this one
MH0HN Liquid cooled heatsink for 95w CPU, Asetek USA, vendor part 35-102-0000113

...Or you get a much more powerefficient cpu like a Ryzen 3700x or hell even a 3900x. You will have to change cpu, motherboard, ram and eventually (highly recommended) the psu.
Do you have enough room in your case for a big air cooler?

Its basically a new pc at that point which reuses the gpu and maybe a drive and the case.
