I have a nettle 2 motherboard. Currently paired with an Amd athlon 64 x2. What are some good upgrade choices? I know they are limited, but I don’t know what any of the cpu specs mean. Just looking for a low cost gaming budget.
Without knowing the exact model you currently have it would be difficult to make a suggestion but tbh there's really nothing worth upgrading as the socket is outdated. https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01077676
According to the HP support page, Athlon 64 x2 dual cores like yours were the fastest this motherboard supported. Some AM2 motherboards could support a Phenom CPU, which opens the door to a quad core, but that would depend on manufacturer support through an updated bios. It doesn't look like HP offers that. Of course, since I don't know the exact model of your computer I can't check for an updated bios. All I can go by is what the motherboard page says.

You are running hardware thats over 10 years old. Their is nothing left to upgrade to that even remotly worthwile since you are already running the fastest cpu it can handle. Save up for a new system.
Okay, I actually have a phenom II 4 core lying around that I’ve been meaning to Use. My computer is an hp m8100n. I think it has ddr2 ram but I’m not sure. Is there a motherboard that I could get that is a little better? I prefer 2 pcie slots

Just get a new used pc with an i5 or so in it. No point in spending money on a long dead and borderline unuseable for basic tasks platform.
