I currently have Core 2 Duo E6750 processor and have bought Core 2 Quad Q9550 for upgrade. I checked some resources for CPU support, and found out it is supported.()http:// I have latest BIOS, DPP3510J.86A.0572.2009.0715.2346, I installed the new CPU and is detected by motherboard but some features like VT-x, SSE4 and Intel Speed Step Up are not detected or cannot be found. Virtualization was enabled by default and was shown during previous processor usage. Also I cannot restart the computer from OS, I have to shut down and then restart the computer to function. Otherwise there is no signal to monitor. And when I replace the old Core 2 Duo processor, it works fine. Please give me some working suggestions.
My configuraton is :
Intel DG33TL motheboard, 2GBx4 800MHz RAM, 2 Hard disks(Seagate 160GB and WD 500GB).

Thanks.

When you remove the processor, check the spec # printed on the heat shield against the ones in the list on the page you linked to. See if it is one of those or if it is a different spec #.

The spec # is SLB8V.

Then the BIOS would have to be DPP3510J.86A or later, which you say you already have. So that leaves a possibility of the CPU being defective as the first thought would I have. Any chance of testing the CPU on another machine? Probably unlikely, huh? Not exactly a common platform any more.

Not sure what the AA Rev # of D89517-700 is that the chart refers to. Possibly the motherboard revision #? Does your board have a rev. # stenciled on it?

Just for reference, I have a Q9550 and used it in my Intel DP45SG board (and an Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P board) with no issues. Still have the Q9550, but no home for it at present.

Yes the board has a rev. # stenciled on it. I will test the processor on a G41 chipset motherboard.(It's my friend's.)

If you can do that, it would go along way towards troubleshooting the issue. If all the CPU functions work using his board, then that will mean the CPU is indeed fine. Next up would be your board, or the OS that you are running.

Btw, here's an article on the VT-x not available issue that may interest you: http://www.howtogeek.com/213795/how-to-enable-intel-vt-x-in-your-computers-bios-or-uefi-firmware/

Well my VT-x is enabled in BIOS and I am not using UEFI. The VT-x option is not shown in the BIOS when I use the core 2 quad core processor, it shows only when I install core 2 duo. So I can neither enable virtualization nor disable it while in core 2 quad. And one more thing, when I have core 2 quad installed, fan speed is at maximum.
