Hi guys,

I currently have an Intel Pentium G2020 (2C/2T) and I wanna buy an Intel i5-2400.
I currently get unstable 30-40 FPS in CSGO, GTAIV and GTAV. I don't overclock anything.

  1. By buying i5-2400, in games such as GTAIV, GTAV and CS:GO, can I get a noticeable performance boost (like 20+ more FPS, Low-Medium Settings) by upgrading my G2020 to i5-2400? Will I get a smooth Experience in CSGO?
  2. Can I get a noticeable Speed boost/Faster Startup in Programs like Photoshop and Filmora?
  3. is i5-2400 compatible with Windows 7 SP1? Do I need to Reinstall the Windows after upgrading to i5?
  4. (Sorry for this stupid question) Do I need to install drivers for CPU to boost performance?
  5. Possible bottleneck? (GTX 550 Ti and i5-2400)

Current Specs:
Intel Pentium G2020
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 550 Ti (1GB GDDR5)
4GB DDR3-1333 RAM (2x2GB)
Gigabyte H61M-S2PV (rev 2.2 - i5-2400 is LGA1155 so it should be compatible?)
Windows 7 SP1 (Build 7601)

Please answer my questions above, Thank you :)

Solution
CSGO and GTA5 (presumably GTA4 also) are CPU-heavy games, so you're on the right track with a CPU upgrade.

How much is this i5-2400 going to cost you?

  1. Yes, an i5-2400 should give you a noticeable FPS improvement.
  2. Startup in programs/OS is going to (most efficiently) come from the use of a SSD instead of an HDD
  3. Yes compatible, no need to reinstall windows
  4. No
  5. GTX550Ti isn't very powerful, if anything, an i5-2400 could push much more GPU.
