I intend to upgrade my present CPU to an AMD Athlon 2700XP, my
motherboard is a Soltek SL-75DRV5 socket A. Bios has been upgraded to
latest version T1.8.
Present CPU ¡V AMD Athlon 1700XP.
Information on Soltek web site states the motherboard supports the
Athlon XP 2700 with the bios version T1.8.
Had a look though the motherboard manual and apart from changing the
external frequency settings (by switch 2) it seems pretty straight
forward.
My concern lies with any bios settings that will need to be changed.
In the Dram Clock/Drive Control setup it shows the current FSB
frequency as 133 MHz (new CPU is 166MHz). Do I change this manually or
does the bios recognise the new CPU automatically? The same question
applies to the clock settings in the Frequency/Voltage Control page?
If I need to change the bios settings, at what stage is it required?
Do I immediately enter the bios after installing the new CPU and
before the computer boots? Of can it wait until a reboot?
Any advice or suggestion would be most welcome.
