Hey guys. This is my first post on the Tom's Hardware website, and I'm glad to be here. I'm kind of a hardware noob, but would like to improve my knowledge via this website. You'll probably see me around. Anyways, back to the topic. As of late, I've been wanting to upgrade my quite old Radeon HD 6800 graphics card to a newer one, and I am looking for a good, new graphics card.

I've been looking at the monthly article on the site, and I put my site on the GTX 950, but after asking my brother (which has over 15 years experience in computer hardware), he said that I can buy a newer GPU for more bang for my buck. Here is where you guys come in.

First of all, I need two things:

  • ■ What do you think of buying a GTX 950 for my system specs below?
    ■ If you are against the buying of a GTX 950 for my system, which GPU would you recommend?

My budget is currently set at $250, but I will increase to $300 max if needed.

My PC's specs:
CPU: AMD A10-6800K APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics @ ~4.1 GHz (Quad Core)
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series
RAM: 8 GB
OS: Windows 10

Thank you all for your support!

Actually right now maybe it is best to wait because it is strongly rumored that amd might be releasing new mainstream part soon (price hinted below $300). Nvidia also have new cards but it is for tje high end. Their sub $300 cards probably won't be coming out until Q3 or even Q4 this year. well knowing that much stronger card can be had for much cheaper price is a good news but ultimately you only have an APU which might become your biggest bottleneck with these new gpu. Going with some thing like 950 (or anything with similar performance) probably the limit your system can take. Any higher bittleneck could become a serious issue. What other gpu right now you can get at similar price as 950?
