Upgrading MB and processor

I'm buying a new motherboard (GA7s748-L), processor and memory for a
new PC, but I'm keeping my existing hard drive running Win 2K.

I'm going from a PIII 500Mhz to an AMD 2500+ processor.

I know there are pitfalls in doing this and wanting to keep my current
HDD, but I don't know what all of them are.
So far I've got
1) potential driver problems (solved by copying drivers onto HDD and
then booting, pointing to correct place when prompted?)
2) potential processor incompatibility problems with Win 2K (solved by
repair/reinstall of Win2K

That's it really. If anyone knows any more or if I might have got the
2 above wrong then please let me know.

Thanks in advance
J.

Whilst I'm sure this may work, experience has told me:

a) Take complete back of HDD
b) Re-install operating system

This was a nightmare for me, because I thought I'd prepared properly but I hadn't (didn't copy all files I needed).
You need to copy all drivers you need to *floppy disks*. Typically you will have a hard time loading drivers for devices such as cdroms. In the end I needed to use a live linux distribution in order to get the right drivers off the cd and onto a floppy.

I'm running win2k as one of my OSes. Didn't really have any trouble updating mobo/processor, although needed to reinstall a lot of drivers (including graphics card, even though it didn't change).

My two cents worth....
generally speaking.... if you dont switch chipsets then you don't normally
have to reinstall the OS.
Safest way is to get you another HD and clean install the OS then you can
copy desired files over....
cheers....
