Can I install an Intel T9300 SLAYY chip in my Gateway E475M laptop.?? It currently has an Intel T8100 chip and I thought by installing the T9300 chip I could speed it up without overheating it..It has Windows 7 Pro 64bit O/S installed with 4GB of RAM...

Welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums!

The TDP in both cases is 35 watts. However that does not mean that the faster CPU (T9300) will run at the same temperature.

The faster CPU will process information faster and will produce more heat. This is not advisable in a laptop.

Thanks for the reply...I have seen a Gateway E265 with a T9300 processor in it as an OEM installation, and thought that would be a nice upgrade for mine since the two Laptops share the same system board.

If nothing else is different, go ahead and do it. However, be prepared for some temp increase depending on the applications running. If temps become an issue even with the present CPU, this is an option: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007639%20600028834&IsNodeId=1&Tpk=laptop%20coolers
