Hi Guys,

I need some help as I'm out of the loop when it comes to PC parts. What's good or bad, I'm not too sure now!

I would like to play all the latest games on max'ish settings (future proofing) and create videos on youtube. So the CPU needs to be for rendering also.

Here is my current build:

CPU: I5 4690k
GPU: GTX 1070
Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 5 (MS-7917)
Ram: G Skill F3-17000CL11-4GBXL DDR3 x 4
PSU: 850W

I think the main things I would like to upgrade first is the cpu and motherboard. I have a budget of £1500 for the upgrade, I can max go up to £2000.

Thanks in advance!!

Here's a starting point:

What is the make/model of your current PSU and how old is it?

thank you for the reply!

my pcu is a Corsair RM 850 (about 3 years old roughly).

How does AMD stack up against Intel CPUs? If I want to render some videos, would a single core performance be better?

Could you also recommend a great pc case thats good with cooling? I have an NZXT case H440, but I don't think its the most cooling case there is.

thanks,

You will need new RAM.

Quite possibly a new power supply also if that existing PSU is as old as the rest of your parts.

What brand/model is it?

Describe your current cooler.
thank you for the reply!

my pcu is a Corsair RM 850 (about 3 years old roughly).

my cooler is a NZXT x61 (2 fans can fit on the cooler.

thanks!

This build is meant for gaming at 1440P / 2K. The 120mm Arctic fan goes inside the back of that case for an exhaust fan.

You can get the AM5 mounting brackets from NZXT.

might be worth it to wait for 7900GRE reviews and decide on the GPU. it should be around £650. but then again, the 7900XT starts at £730 and is a much better option. these GPUs can do 2k gaming and will last long before needing a replacement.

Thank you so much, is an i7 overkill?
What resolution and refresh rate do you want to play at?
At the moment I game at 1080p, but looking to upgrade to a nice curve monitor soon! So I want to have the capability to game at a better resolution.

Thank you for the reply. Don't Radeon graphics cards pull a lot of power and generate a lot of heat?

thanks,
id stick to AMD AM5 personally for socket life span anything LGA1700 is a waste for future proofing ..

7900 non x will be solid for both gaming and production ( easier to cool as well ) GPU wise a 7900xt will be fine and decent Vram over the Nvidia competition a 850w psu should be fine cl30 6000 ddr5 is the sweet spot for ram 32gb should be fine !!

The i7 is a great gaming cpu. Take that first build I posted with the 4070 Ti and switch out the cpu with this one.
