Upgrading my PC

BUYING WHEN?: End of this year

Hey guys, I have decided to upgrade my PC's motherboard and cpu but I dont know which ones too choose?!

Currently I've got 4GB of RAM, a Sapphire ATI HD4870 Toxic, 50x50cm case, 500w PSU, 500GB Harddrive, and a cheap Sata burner.

My CPU is an intel E5500 2.6ghz and the mobo is a gigabyte mobo but I dont think the model..

I've got around 250 euros together to spend on them so I was thinking of getting the AMD Phenom II X4 965..but I wouldnt knoch which MOBO to get..I also heard the i5-750 would be good but that the AMD is much better for gaming.

Would be nice if someone could help me out :>

In order to help you we need a few more pieces of information:

- Specifically the type of ram and model, whether it's DDR2 or DDR3 depends on the new motherboard you can get. Because obviously you are trying to utilize the same memory.
- Model type of your power source as well.

Your RAM is DDR3, right?

The Phenom II X4s are a better value. The i5-750 is a more powerful processor, but you wouldn't see much of an improvement for gaming. It would also be hard to get an i5-750 on that budget.

If your ram is DDR3, you would need an AM3 motherboard for the Phenom II X4. Look for ones with USB3.0, SATA III, dual PCI-E x16 slots, and a PCI-E 8x/8x mode (if you want Crossfire support). ASUS and Gigabyte are the most trusted brands followed closely by ASRock and MSI.

I would recommend the Core i5-760 and GIGABYTE GA-P55-USB3 which is around 300 USD.

When it comes to computer components, they are about 1:1, though.

You could get an AM2+ AMD motherboard that would support DDR2 and Phenom II/Athlon II processors. You would have to sell your DDR2 and buy DDR3 for an Intel system or for one of the newer AMD motherboards.

Your power supply is powerful enough to handle any of these processors with your graphics card.

if you plan to reuse your DDR2, they you probably want to look into a 785 w/ DDR2, and stick with a 95W processor (an Athlon II X4 640 and a DDR2 mobo like a 740 or 785) should be fairly inexpensive
