I've been told my ram is terrible and is really causing this computer to not shine. Is this true? Why or why not?

If i did want to upgrade ram what would be a good upgrade?

Solution

No, it's not bad, it shows you that you are graphics limited. This means that faster RAM will not help one bit. You will need to get your hands on another 780TI card.
I see no reason why it's holding you back... unless it's not enough for YOUR needs. Unless your streaming, running Skype, rendering and gaming happening at the same time you should be fine :) Your Ram is good enough and it is not lacking at all. Your 4790k can Multitask really well and if you feel like your reaching the 8gb Cap then upgrade. The timings aren't bad either.

Now here's a build. You need gobs of graphics power for 144Hz monitors so this will be about twice as fast.

It's more that things arent as snappy as id think they would be. A techy friend of mine said that my ram was what makes things snappy and that if i wanted things to be faster as far as opening/closing to get better ram. Is this true?? Sounds to me from what you guys are saying that this ram is good? And sorry for the idiot question but what exactly is "timings" and where would one find these?

Just curious any reason for the CPU cooler switch? From what i can tell thats almost the same as my build currently. Wouldnt it be cheaper to just change ram and get that PSU other then buying new cooler and a new cards? What would be the benefit in changing those?

wasnt aware RAM had sensors for timings ect but ok :) and yes ive been running this for around a year.

Your RAM is fine. Memory trimming determines speed that is partially right. Since you are running your system every thing default there is nothing to worry about. Its only when you are overclocking you need to think about memory speed and its timings . Hopes its clear

Yes it was thank you :) so how would i go about making this computer faster? as far as response ect.

The DRAM is fine as is, you could go faster and better sticks, the 2x4GB GSkill Trident 2400/10 is about $7 more than what you have with more bandwidth and a tighter (comparatively) CL, Pricewise today those Tri's or most 2133/9 sets are the sweetspot for price/performance

Its already crazzy fast. If you want even faster you had to overclock your CPU, RAM etc. Honestly, what is the need for that for a brand new high end machine? Its like you bought a 1000 HP car and you wanted to modify the car to even faster ??

going to go ahead and assume that a 10 second load time time isnt fast to open chrome, mypc, ect??? 😉 my mac is MUCH faster and i just know that this computer isnt suppose to be that slow. perhaps something is wrong with my ram?

I will look into that thank you very much :)

Oh, sorry, I thought you were contemplating a new build. You are most likely held back by your graphics card. You should go SLI first, then consider your RAM. Normally RAM has next to no effect on gaming. And it doesn't, until you are at 90+ FPS. Then the CPU and RAM become big factors.

The way to tell is to monitor your CPU usage and GPU usage as you play a game. See which one is maxed out. I would guess the GPU.

how would i monitor my GPU usage? I know hwmonitor and other things do cpu ect but never seen anything that does GPU

Such delay in opening application is not bcz your RAM. If RAM was the case then my 5 year old PC with slower 8GB DDR3 1600 CL9 Mhz RAM opens chrome almost instantly even its slower than you. Its something else is the problem not RAM or its timings. By upgrading the RAM you wont solve the issue which is i am 99% sure. There are lots of possibilities why such delay happens in your machine which is hard to blindly troubleshoot by toms hardware users here. Only by examining the real system to make a proper solution. You may consult your PC with an expert friend or person to troubleshoot the issue.

unfortunately when you live in the middle of no where thats hard to do 🙁 but thank you for the help :)

You should have Nvidia software that shows you your GPU useage. Like Asus GPU tweak.

Just searched that and apparently i already have it installed 😛 will post what i find after play a match of evolve 😀

Am i just looking at GPU usage?

Evolve was updating so couldnt play that... but i went ahead and did another VERY graphics intense thing.. and it went to 98%.. so gonna assume thats bad or?
