Budgeting to upgrade my play PC. Goal is twofold:
  • Produce higher fps (above 60fps) at 1440p for games like Tarkov, Elden Ring, Starfield, Destiny, what is to come the next few years, etc...
  • I also do a fair bit of freelance work doing graphic animation through C4D/Redshift - not enough yet to really warrant serious render time consideration, but I assume it goes along pretty similarly with the above? Anticipating growing this area so would like to make sure I'm able to do so efficiently.
Latest build was in Q1 2019:
  • ASROCK X399 Taichi, AMD X399 Chipset, TR4, ATX Motherboard
  • AMD Ryzen™ Threadripper™ 2920X 12-Core 3.5 - 4.3GHz Turbo, TR4, 180W TDP, Processor
  • EVGA GeForce RTX™ 2070 Black GAMING, 1410 - 1620MHz, 8GB GDDR6, Graphics Card
  • EVGA 1000 G3, 80 PLUS Gold 1000W, ECO Mode, Fully Modular, ATX Power Supply
Main question is how does my current build work with a higher powered GPU? Budget is around ~$800 right now for upgrades, so just curious if I'll bottleneck myself if I go with a 4070 or similar.

most games mentioned should be fine with what you have.

how much ram do you have ? also yes the cpu may hold back the gpu. threadripper isnt designed to game really it does fine even if the cpu holds it back a bit the 2070 i would say is biggest issue. 8gb isnt really enough anymore for 1440p
