Upgrading PSU - Recommendations for something silent?

Hi,

So I'm upgrading at the end of the month to a 3770k on an ASRock Extreme 6. I'm looking to upgrade my PSU to something that is reliable but quiet. My current PSU is my loudest component and I want my machine to run more quietly. I currently have an Ultra LSP750 750-Watt PSU.

Any recommendations for something thats quiet, 750+ and ideally modular? Also, do you think I am better off getting something with more power for it to run more quietly due to a lesser relative load?

Try and get something from the XFXPro range as they have a fan off feature, meaning that the fan actually turns off under low loads.

The XFX Core edition psu's are very good too but they are only rated Bronze and I'm not sure about how quiet they are.

It is only the XFX Pro Black Edition 1000, 1050 and 1250W that have the semi-fanless feature.
The Core and XXX Editions are rated to a maximum of 36dBA.
The only one that I know of which has had it's fan speed curve measured by an independant review site was the 850W when it was still known as the Black Edition.

The minimum speed was 600RPM, which it stayed at until a 500W load. The max it reached was 1800RPM.
Based on what they measured I'd say the 850W version would remain quiet enough up until a 600/700W load.

I wouldn't buy a SPM Gold because they all have very high ripple and noise (still in spec) on the 12V and 5V rails.

Apart from being fanless up to a ~150W load the Seasonic X-760 basically has the same fan curve as the XFX Pro 850W XXX Edition.

Get the seasonic x-760 it's a really good psu and it has hybrid fan. Turns off under low load and spins when on load.

I have a lower end seasonic modular 620 watt psu and it's very quiet under load despite it not having gold cert or hybrid fan.

striders are good but they start making a buzzing sound after some time(mostly).if you have antec 1200 or DF-85,then this is a really good and silent unit-

My case is a CoolerMaster Haf 92 MidTower... Thanks for the recommendations but I'm really interested in something fully modular.

modular hardly makes any difference.if you are good at cable management,then you can do very well with a non modular unit.
