Hello, I recently had an issue where my PC wouldn't stay on after adding a GTX 1650 super, and was helped by wonderful people here which resolved the issue that my RAM was mixed ( i was using Crucial 8GB 1GX64 DDR3 1600UDIMM 240 with the 4gb RAM i will post below)

I would like to upgrade my RAM however, but I am rather confused, as the 8GB ram i used stated above gave the same issue when I tried using it alone

I tried contacting Corsair & Crucial a few times, but Corsair have said nothing yet, and Crucial haven't really answered the question i am worried about

Their scanner-thing says this will be fine (Crucial 16GB Kit (2 x 8GB) DDR3L-1600 UDIMM), but I am unsure since I don't exactly know why the PC works with my current ram, but not the other 8GB one I had initially

I greatly appreciate all the responses, and thank you for reading!

Solution
Memory must match both the motherboard's requirements and match the specs of any other installed memory modules. Mismatches can work but will only work (again if they do) at the performance level of the lowest spec'd/speed module.

For the most part your computer will need a 2 x 8GB kit (matched modules) in order to use dual channel.

The key reference is the Motherboard's User Guide/Manual.

https://download.gigabyte.com/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_ga-h97m-hd3_e.pdf

Do verify that I found the correct manual. E.g., version #....

Physically numbered Pages 7 (Memory) and 10 (Installing the Memory) present supported memory and its' installation.

The manual also references back to Gigabyte's website for current information...

The manual also references back to Gigabyte's website for current information regarding supported RAM.

Start with Gigabyte's recommended/supported RAM specs.

Then go to two or three RAM manufacturers (Kingston, PNY, Samsung) and run their RAM configurators to find memory modules that match Gigabytes's specs.

Look for a consensus; In other words that all sources agree that any given RAM module or RAM kit is supported and will work.

Details matter so read all notes and fine print.
