Hi, is it worth upgrading my cpu from an i3 3220 ivy bridge 3.3GHz to a i5 3570k ? Right now I can run any game on decent settings but will I see a better performance that is very noticeable?

My specs:

intel i3 3220 ivy bridge 3.3GHz
MSI R7770-PMD1GD5 Radeon HD 7770 GHz Edition 1GB
ASUS H61M-A/USB3 LGA 1155 Intel
G.Skill ddr3 8GB

Yes, things will be faster, but is it worth it? Probably not. I'd wait for a bit and do a full upgrade with a new motherboard/cpu/videocard/ssd. H61 motherboards do not let you overclock (easily) and are not designed for it.

If you did want to upgrade this particular machine, beef up your video card to GTX 760 or 770 or R9 280X and sell/hand me down your 7770.

Hm... you would for sure see an improvement under normal circumstances, but I think you wouldn't really see much improvement in games because your 7770 is a pretty weak GPU. I would recommend upgrading that first, but then again, dual core processors are getting phased out very quickly... I would wait and see what Intel comes out with next, they just made an announcement about Broadwell, improved Haswell and Haswell-E I believe, and something you may be interested in, which are their 20th anniversary Pentium chips, which will be solid, affordable quad core processors that will come unlocked, meaning you can easily overclock them. They also are on the same socket as the i3's and i5's and possibly i7's, depending on which specific iX CPU and which Pentium, so that's a good thing as well. If they end up performing well and you want to get one, you could possibly still have enough left over to get a better GPU as well. Just food for thought.
